FLEMISH GOES TO THE COMICS
What if a famous Flemish painter in the 1600’s painted The Incredible Hulk, as a Duke?
Sasha grew up on comics in Eastern Europe and as he has gotten older wanted to transport these icons of his youth into a 17-century image tableau using painting techniques such as chiaroscuro to highlight light and shadow in his photography.
In his words:
Sacha’s discovery of these characters, which goes back to childhood, gave birth to a desire to re-appropriate them, to take them back to a time forming the cornerstone of modern western art. Sacha wants to confront these icons of American culture with contemporary painters of the Flemish school.”
