Back in March 2011, Illustration.org had the great opportunity, for just a little bit of time, to talk to James Jean about his Rebus exhibition at the Martha Otero Gallery. This was one of James’ first few solo exhibitions as a fine artist after working for years in the comics industry for DC Comics (amd garnering over 7 Eisner, 3 consecutive Harvey awards, 2 gold and a silver metal from the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, and one gold metal from the Society of Illustrators of New York per Wikipedia.)
In this interview, James talks about his past as an illustrator, some of his current commercial work at the time, and his advice to aspiring illustrators and fine artists. James is currently still creating fine artworks and had some collaborations with such companies as Prada’s bags (via Hyperbeast).
